Have Patience and Endure explores the repetitive, often unseen realities of living with chronic illness and cancer. Through detailed watercolor studies, original textile designs, and intimate oil paintings, Lauren Pizzi honors the experiences of women navigating illness and the ways it becomes woven into everyday life.

Intricate patterns surround and merge with the figures, transforming deeply personal narratives of vulnerability into expressions of resilience, identity, and quiet, shared strength.

Artist Statement

Lauren Pizzi

Lauren Pizzi (Massachusetts, b. 1993) received her B.F.A. in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2015. She began studying oil painting at age eleven under the guidance of artist and lifelong mentor Sue Gilkey.

Influenced early in her practice by the Impressionists, Pizzi initially focused on landscapes and still lifes before turning to contemporary figurative realism. Her recent work explores the often unseen realities of chronic illness and cancer, bringing visibility to experiences that are frequently carried quietly.

Through intimate portraiture, immersive backgrounds, and patterned garments that merge with the figure, Pizzi considers how illness becomes interwoven with identity, routine, and daily life. Her repeating patterns—often incorporating anatomical motifs and florals—extend beyond the canvas into original textiles and wallpaper, creating a visual language that moves between the body, beauty, vulnerability, and resilience.
