WHAT TO EXPECT:
LabCentral is honored and excited to host a live taping of our founder-based video series, The Dish! Join us for a very special episode featuring Biogen co-founder, MIT Institute Professor, and Nobel prize winner, Phillip Sharp.
Phillip Sharp is an Institute Professor at MIT and a renowned geneticist and molecular biologist whose discoveries transformed the world’s understanding of gene expression. As co-founder of Biogen and Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Sharp’s contributions have been instrumental in building Cambridge’s biotech ecosystem. Awarded the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of RNA splicing, Dr. Sharp has been a driving force in bridging fundamental research and biotechnology innovation.
The program is expected to run approximately 45 minutes, with additional time at the end for questions from attendees.
Space is limited, so please RSVP for your opportunity to join us live in the audience. Be sure to submit your questions for Phil ahead of time during registration! Are you ready to Dish?

Phillip Sharp
Biogen & MIT
Phillip Sharp is an Institute Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a pioneering molecular biologist whose discoveries have transformed genetics and biomedical science. He is best known for his 1977 discovery of RNA splicing, which revealed that genes in mammalian cells are often discontinuous. This breakthrough fundamentally changed the understanding of gene structure and expression and earned him the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Dr. Sharp has published more than 385 scientific papers and received many of the field’s top honors, including the Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award, the National Medal of Science, and the inaugural Double Helix Medal from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
He earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and conducted postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology before joining MIT. Beyond academia, he co-founded Biogen and Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, both leaders in advancing biotechnology and RNA-based therapeutics.
